just a random thought...

Did you know that if your name is Trish,
like mine just so happens to be,
the so-called intelligent iphone 4 text keyboard automatically
predicts and corrects
your name to Trash in messages?

Well, isn't that fun?

My Mom once told me that she had also wanted to name me Robyn.
After receiving a few text messages lately where I have been called
(endearingly I like to believe)
Trash,
I'm thinking Robyn sounds pretty nice!

Friday finds from Etsy

Well, hello again Friday!  Always so nice to see you!
No big plans for the weekend over here, and I wouldn't want it any other way.  I may get out and do some (much needed) gardening, perhaps a run around the lake, or I might just laze around and finish my book.
The latter sounding most appealing at the moment!
What are your weekend plans?  xoxo for now!

coconut waffles

Like coconut?
Like strawberries?
Think mangoes aren't half bad either?
check, check, and check!

I thought I'd share with you this recipe for
Coconut Waffles with Strawberry-Mango Compote.
I had this recipe given to me almost 10 years ago now and we make these waffles about once or twice a year in our home.
With our local strawberry season just around the corner, I pulled this recipe out, along with a few others.  Strawberry season here is
short but sweet
and one must take advantage of it!

Coconut Waffles with Strawberry-Mango Compote

1 pint strawberries, hulled and sliced
1 ripe mango, peeled, pitted, and cut into small cubes
1 tablespoon sugar

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter , melted
1 cup milk
3 large eggs , beaten
1/2 cup coconut milk
1/4 cup shredded sweetened coconut
Fresh mint, for garnish

Toss the strawberries, mango and sugar in a bowl. Let stand for about 90 minutes.

Heat a waffle iron according to the manufacturer's directions. Lightly oil the grids.

Meanwhile, whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl to combine. Make a well in the center and pour in the melted butter, milk, eggs and coconut milk. Whisk just until smooth; do not over-mix. Mix in the coconut.

Spoon about 1/4 cup of the batter into the center of each quadrant of the waffle iron and close the iron. Cook until the waffle is golden brown, 3 to 4 minutes.

Serve the waffles hot, spooning the compote on top.
Garnish with the mint leaves. Enjoy!

just a friday evening in may

No Friday finds today ~ it's been a bit of a busy week
and I just never got up to it.
But now it is the Friday evening of a long weekend and I am happy about that!
Looking forward to settling down with
a glass of wine,
a movie,
and having a little date night with these two guys...

...happy weekend to you!

i like this girl

Here is my pick for Cannes cutie ~ Rachel McAdams.
I have a soft spot for her!  Of course I love that she's a fellow Canadian, and I also really like her in 'The Notebook'.  Enough said about that one, right?  Who didn't fall for Allie and Noah?
I can watch that movie every single time it comes on TV.
I think Rachel looks very pretty and happy doing the rounds in Cannes, promoting her new movie
'Midnight in Paris'

On a side note, I've been having great fun changing things up around here!  Still working through a few glitches...I cannot for the life of me figure out why the links remain blue and underlined?  Also cannot figure out why the new background doesn't show up on an ipad or iphone?
Nonetheless ~
a little change feels fresh and good
...like when you rearrange the living room furniture!

Friday finds from Etsy

Well, Friday finds are just barely squeakin' in...it's almost Saturday!  I have 'all things wedding' on my mind lately as my sister and I begin to get knee-deep in planning our good friend's wedding.  The wedding will take place over a weekend this September on a pretty, quiet island named Galiano.  It's going to be an intimate, outdoor ceremony with just the bride and groom's nearest and dearest present.
I think Etsy is just a fantastic place to be looking for when you have a party or wedding to plan...such a wealth of fabulous ideas.  And you can sign up for their weekly email that showcases great handmade and vintage wedding finds.  Tons of good finds and ideas in them!  These are just a few wedding things that have caught my eye of late...
Wishing you a happy weekend!

I like the feel of these finds...a bit country, a bit rustic, but a whole lot of pretty!
Thoughts on country weddings?  Do you like the sweet simplicity of them?

xoxo for now!

Tuesday, May 10

just a few photos....

...of the plant sale I volunteered at.  I had such a nice time working alongside my Mom and my sister.  It didn't rain, in fact the sun peeked out every once in a while, and there were many gardeners who came out to fill up their cardboard trays.
Those who love plants are a special breed, aren't they?
Everyone was warm, friendly and helpful.
I picked up some lovelies for my garden.  A few containers of basil, one monkshood, and a stunning fuchsia hanging basket that I eyed up right away and my mom then surprised me and bought me for Mother's day.  It is glorious!  Thanks Mama!
I'm hoping that it will bring many hummingbirds this summer...I had a fuchsia basket a few years ago and we had so many hummers that year.

The plant sale was held in the private driveway of a beautifully landscaped lot on which sits a spectacular home.  I would have taken more photos but I'm afraid I was beginning to look a bit creepy meandering about the property.  It was all I could do to not go up and peek in the windows.  Might have got awkward if they were inside sitting at the kitchen table, perhaps enjoying a piece of toast, and I was outside staring at them through the window.

Friday finds from Etsy

Hope that everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!
My Mom will be coming into town tomorrow morning (yay!) and then her, my sister and myself will be volunteering at a plant sale.  They both have worked at this same plant sale for a few years now but this is the first year I am joining them.  The forecast is calling for rain but my fingers are crossed for otherwise!  It's been just over two months since I've seen my mom so I am very much looking forward to our visit.
And this will be my sister's first Mother's Day...her adorable little guy, Harry, is eight months old today!  So this will be a special one for her!

Happy Friday!

what is it about bunting?

images 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Does it catch your eye the way it does mine?
Seriously, I can't get enough of it.  I find it so utterly
fun and whimsical.
For a friend's wedding that my sister and I are planning this summer, we are creating a kids area just outside of the main dining room.  It's a great space overlooking the ocean with beautiful wide plank flooring, and we are really excited to create a room that is fun and playful just for the little ones.  Bunting is one of the things we are planning to use to build a sense of whimsy.
Often I wish that I was able to sew (it's on my Bucket List!) but especially when I see such simple things as bunting...because really, how hard could it be?
